SOLAR PROJECT MANAGER EXPLAINS IMPORTANCE OF USING SOLAR ENERGY

NEWS BANJUL, THE GAMBIA (MB)-Tiloo Solar Project, a newly established local project, is out to assist Gambian women to realize the efficiency of cooking with solar cookers using the sun.

Established in 2006 as a small project at Fajikunda, Tiloo Solar project, relocated in Kanifing South, was founded by Madame Elena Steger-Gassama, a Swiss National, and Amadou Gassama, a Gambian national.

“The project was established to help society to use solar cookers when cooking, as “it is economical and also time-saving,” Tiloo’s manager Muhammed Jarra said in a recent encounter with this reporter at his office in Kanifing South.

According to Mr Jarra, the project is under rental premises and has built a carpentry workshop where solar cookers and tunnel driers for drying and preserving foods are manufactured.

Furthermore, there is a restaurant at the project’s premises called Sunshine Restaurant where food and drinks are served in a genial manner.

Veering into the importance of using solar, Mr Jarra said: “We use the solar to prepare cake, fish pie, olele and many other foodstuffs. We make local juices; sell soft drinks and other beverages. We also have a corner shop where our entire products are displayed for sale.” Surprises and appeasement await you at Tiloo Solar project restaurant, as its gastronomy, on the backdrop of decorum and decency, is done to treat visitors, friends, all and sundry to the best of their taste.

Mr Jarra added that they also make pastry and train people interested in preparing it using solar cookers.

“We also train students of certain schools to prepare most of the foodstuffs we make using solar cooker and energy and we want to extend a helping hand to more students and schools to help them to attain their goals in the field of catering,” he noted.

“At Tiloo Solar Project,” the manager explained, “we sell solar cookers at an affordable rate and do not hit our customers’ pockets hard. We sell reasonable and durable products.”

Mr Jarra continued: “Anybody who wishes to know more about the project can call on: 7053822/9712915 or email at: tiloogambia@gmail.com.”

He also called on everyone to buy and start using solar cooker as “it is economical and cheap”, disclosing that their contribution and assistance towards humanity “is where we peg our goal”.
