Countrywide Tekki Fii roadshow kicks off to empower Gambian youth

(Banjul) Young people, it’s worth making a living in The Gambia – that’s the message heading to all five regions of the country through a roadshow kicking off under a new Tekki Fii campaign.

The roadshow will run from 31 March to 5 April, stopping at different locations to host intergenerational talks, skills orientation sessions on entrepreneurship, solar installation, construction, creative industries, agribusiness and more.

RURAL YOUTH AWARDS 2019: GYIN Gambia receives over 200 applicants for 10 awards categories’

As the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia chapter’s planned 3rd Edition of the Rural Youth Awards 2019 drew closer, the National Organizing Committee (NOC) have received about two hundred and five (205) applicants across the length and breadth of the country competing for the 10 awards categories’.

The much anticipated event is scheduled to be held from 25^th to 27^th April 2019 at the WASDA centre in Wuli West District, Upper River Region of the Gambia.

In an interview with, Mr. Sarjo Jarju, Chairperson of the 3^rd Edition of the Rural Youth Awards 2019, National Organising Committee, confirmed that two hundred and five (205) applications were successfully submitted for this year’s Rural Youth Awards 2019.

He say “on 10^th March 2019 was the deadline for the submission of applications in which 10 youth are targeted to be awarded with thirty-five thousand dalasis (D35,000.00) for each award winner,” says the NOC Chairperson, Mr Sarjo Jarju shortly after returning from a massive countrywide collection of filled application forms that were distributed earlier.
The Rural Youth Awards 2019 aims to identify, promote and elevate successful young men and women’s creativities, energies and passion geared to develop their communities and societies.

GYIN Gambia Chapter to end mentorship training for 50 rural youth this coming Saturday, in Jenoi

On 15 and 16 March 2019, Fifty (50) rural youths will complete the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN)- The Gambia Chapter six months mentorship program, which started on 16 September 2018.

The event will be held at the Jenoi Rural Agricultural Farmers Training Centre, in Lower River Region Saturday.

The mentorship program objectives are to advice and guide the mentees on the right path of enterprise management; equip the mentees with best practices of running a venture such as taxation, business registrations, bank savings etc; instil in them the culture of running a venture, with passion and pleasure; and to unlock the hidden potentials and abilities in the participants.

By the fourth month of the Mentorship Programme, most of the mentees registered tremendous successes as per their undertakings.

The Global Youth Innovation Network - Gambia’s Rural Youth Award National Organizing Committee members on Wednesday paid a courtesy call to the executive director of the National Youth Council, Lamin Darboe to inform him about the upcoming third edition of the awards 2019.

The award recognises and celebrates the achievements of rural youths in entrepreneurship and agribusiness. This year’s theme is “Discovering Rural Value Chain by Putting Young People in Agricultural Value Addition.”

The awards provide financial support to deserving agribusiness players to not only grow their businesses, but serves as an encouragement for them and others to stay in agriculture and contribute to increasing food security, and at the same time enjoy the benefits of running their own businesses.

The 2019 awards winners’ are to receive cash prizes of D35, 000.00 each plus a six-month mentorship.

NACCUG Trains 35 Mini Grant Shortlisted Applicants on Financial Literacy

The National Association of Cooperative Credit Union of the Gambia (NACCUG), last Saturday, 1st December, 2018, convened a Financial Literacy training programme for 35 shortlisted applicants of Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) mini grant scheme.

 Held at its head office in Bakau, the training was meant to build the participants’ capacities on Savings, Management and Basic Records Keeping for SMEs.

The YEP mini grant scheme application process and funds disbursement is under the purview of NACCUG.

Delivering the opening remarks on the occasion, the mini grant Officer, Saikou Touray dilated on the purpose of the gathering, stating that is a rare opportunity for the participants to be part of the training.

He also tasked them to make good use of training.

Also speaking, the NACCUG Financial and Admin Manager, Mr Patrick Mendy welcome all the participants to the training and advise them to make best use of the opportunity accorded them.

With only $15M, GYIN Gambia vows to create 70,000 jobs

The GYIN Gambia Executive Director, Mamadou Edrisa Njie has called on development partners and donor agencies to invest a funding package of $15 million in a bid to enable his organization to realize its innovative ideas in creating 70,000 direct and indirect jobs for young people across the country.

To implement these ideas, Mr. Njie noted that his organization is requesting for only this amount and within three years, 70,000 jobs will be created.

Speaking at the Youth Trade and Agribusiness Forum on the theme “Youth Employment in Agriculture and Tourism as a solid solution to ending Food Insecurity and Unemployment in The Gambia” at the ongoing National Youth Agribusiness and Tourism Expo 2018, organized by the Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC) at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, he assured that GYIN Gambia is ever ready to refund the money in full to any donor or development partner, if the project fails.

The Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia Chapter (GYIN Gambia) and The Gambia Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) have signed a grant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the purpose of providing one-to-one mentoring to high-potential young entrepreneurs.

Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia Chapter (GYIN Gambia) is a national youth organization under the National Youth Council (NYC). GYIN Gambia has been implementing a number of youth projects related to agribusiness, information technology and entrepreneurship. Under the MOU, GYIN Gambia will match Gambian youth entrepreneurs with mentors who will provide individualized coaching. In addition, all mentors and mentees will meet monthly in a workshop to share experiences and to learn from one another.
