The United States Embassy in Banjul will held a blogging class session for Gambian bloggers hosted by US Embassy visiting speaker Wesley J. Watkins, IV, PHD., or “Dr. Wes,” as his students call him.The blogging session will be first of its kind in the Gambian soil and will be held Thursady 3o June, 2011 at The Gambia Press Union Headquarters in Bakau.
According to information gathered from the US Embassy in Banjul, up to twenty Gambian bloggers are invited to attend the blogging class session from 8: 45 to 10:00 am
Dr. Waltkins is the founder of the Jazz and Democracy Project. He ia an arts education advocate who served as an Arts Learning Anchor School Facilitator in the Oakland Unified school district and as a District Arts coach with the Alameda Country Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership.
Hhe is an avid music lover-especially Jazz and Latin Jazz- who interviews top musicians and maintain a blog that educates the public about great live music in the Basy Area.
Dr. Watkins is visiting The Gambia with three colleagues for a week long program whhere he will engage Gambian high schools and university students in his Jazz and Democracy Project.
