2012 Excellence in Leadership Award recipient: Mr.Pape Samb

Every year, The Nimba Foundation & Miss Guinee North America Scholarship Pageant identifies young African Leaders who have excelled in their respective communities and in their professional fields and Humanitarian works.
We are very pleased, excited and honored to introduce our 2012 Excellence in Leadership Award recipient. Mr.Pape Samb, President & Chief Executive Officer of Phelps Stokes. The whole Continent is so proud of you and The Nimba Foundation and Miss Guinee  North America are very honored to present you with this award on September 2nd, 2012!!!

Who is Pape Samb????????

Mr. Pape Samb
Pape Samb is a social entrepreneur focused on international development, who has over seventeen years of leadership experience in program and resource development, fundraising, partnership building, entrepreneurship, strategic planning, training and facilitation, global leadership, content management, and public speaking.
Mr. Samb is the youngest and first non-American President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Phelps Stokes, America’s oldest (101 years) continuously-operating foundation.  Mr. Samb provides leadership and vision in the development, implementation and assessment of Phelps Stokes’ global activities in the following four program areas: education, leadership, citizenship, and entrepreneurship and information technology. Prior to being tapped as the CEO, Mr. Samb was the COO at Phelps Stokes, as well as the Director of the Africa Programs. As Director of the Africa programs, among many things, Mr. Samb played a key role in the design and development of the IFAD’s sponsored Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN), a network of 5,000 young leaders, entrepreneurs and farmers from more than 100 countries.
Before that Mr. Samb was the Associate Development Director of Sasha Bruce Youthwork, where he supported the organization’s development and programmatic operations including writing proposals and developing and coordinating staff training programs. He also facilitated the creation of the Development Department’s strategic plan and assisted with the agency’s operational strategies.
Prior to joining Sasha Bruce, Mr. Samb was a Senior Fellow at Phelps Stokes Fund, developing projects based on personal expertise to address the educational needs of Africans, the African Diaspora, Native Americans and other disenfranchised populations. Mr. Samb also worked at Africare to design, implement and manage an online communication platform for twenty six field offices in Africa.
Before joining Sasha Bruce, Mr. Samb held various positions including Director of Micro-Finance at Cooperazione Internazionale, an Italian NGO working in Africa, where he directed the organization’s micro-finance and fundraising activities, distributed loans, managed departmental representatives and trained entrepreneurs and potential clients in small business and financial management including Making Cents TM. He also owned a business consulting firm, where he conceptualized and researched small business ideas, provided feasibility studies and proposal writing services, trained clients, and directed them toward financial partners.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Samb founded and served as the first president of GRADES, a national economic development organization in Senegal, working closely with political and religious leaders to respond to illiteracy, the lack of qualified employees, and unemployment among youth and women in a religiously conservative area where education is not emphasized.
Mr. Samb holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, a Diploma in Business Management, Accounting and Entrepreneurship, and a Masters of Public Administration in Executive Leadership at American University in Washington, DC.
Mr. Samb is an active member and board member of several African- and African Diaspora-focused organizations including Constituents for Africa (CFA), African American United Caucus (AAUC) Next Generation of Leaders, Vort Port International (VPI), Asociacion Cultural Afrolatina y la Diaspora Africana, (ACADA) and the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) Africa Working Group. He is the founder of SENEGEL, an organization of Senegalese young leaders around the world, and the co-founder of African Neoleaders, an organization for emerging leaders, and CEO of Exeleadmen International Consulting, focusing on executive leadership, management, and entrepreneurship training and coaching for private and public sector managers.
Mr. Samb is also a well-known advocate for developing self-sustainable, community and youth- led initiatives based on the 3S (Synergy, Sustainability, and Success Stories). He is active speaker at African and America universities, World Bank, Peace Corps, USAID, US governments, African governments and other international institutions
