GYIN Gambia ELIT 2019 Summer Camp to Hold on July 21 in Basse

Churchill’s Town, June 20, 2019 -- The 4^th edition of the National Youth Summer Camp on Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Information Technology (ELIT) will be held in Basse, Upper River Region (URR) from 21 – 31 July, 2019.

This year’s 10-day youth camp will allow young people to acquire relevant knowledge and skills to start and successfully manage an enterprise or business ventures, the organizer, GYIN Gambia said in a statement on Thursday.

It is to be held under the theme ‘Transforming youth into agents of change in agribusiness ventures’. Sixty (60) participants selected from across the six Agricultural Directorates in The Gambia are to take part in the camp.

Young Female ELIT Alumni Establishes Poultry Farm

An active member of the Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia Chapter, Ms. Sainabou Ngack has made a household name for herself by being the first female to establish the first-ever Poultry Farm in her native village of Pakau Njogu, North Bank Region.

Being among the “five best selected participants” in GYIN Gambia’s Entrepreneurship Leadership Information & Technology (ELIT) 2018 National Youth Summer Camp with cash prize of D10, 000.00, she ventured into poultry to help her community to have access to poultry meat and at the same time capitalize on the unique opportunity of being the sole poultry producer in the village.

GYIN GAMBIA TO GRADUATE 50 YOUTHS ON ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT MENTORSHIP

The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia chapter- www.gyingambia.gm   will on Saturday, 16^th March, 2019 hold a graduation ceremony for 50 (fifty) young people who undergone its six months Youth Mentorship Programme on Enterprise Management.

The graduation ceremony, which will be held at the Agricultural Rural Farmers’ Training Center in Jenoi, Lower River Region (LRR), is the second batch of GYIN Gambia’s coaching and mentoring programme.

Funded solely by the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP)- www.yep.gm, the Youth Mentorship Programme on Enterprise Management has been designed to provide support for the mentees on Understanding business ecosystem, Banking and finance, Applying grants and loans as well as Records keeping. 

Stakeholders Dilate on GYIN Gambia Rural Youth Awards

Stakeholders in youth empowerment spheres in Basse, have spoken extensively on the significance of the forthcoming Rural Youth Awards 2019, to be organize by the Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia Chapter dubbed GYIN Gambia Chapter.

This year's event is scheduled to take place in Wuli West, Upper River Region (URR) from the 25^th – 27^th April, 2019.

The award aims to support youth in their entrepreneurial and agricultural endeavours, so as to engage them in meaningful ventures.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Kebba Sillah, Director of Wuli and Sandu Development Association(WASDA), said the award will broaden the financial resource base of the beneficiaries, as well impact positively on the entrepreneurial aspirations of the awardees and by extension encourage others to double their efforts to also benefit from the award.

The International Trade Centre launches SheTrades in the Gambia

(Banjul /Geneva) – The International Trade Centre (ITC) today announced the launch of SheTrades in the Gambia with a view to enable the country’s women entrepreneurs to benefit from greater economic returns.

A country-specific Chapter of the global SheTrades Initiative, which aims to connect 3 million women to markets by 2021, SheTrades in the Gambia will initially focus on strengthening skills and capacities of women entrepreneurs in the agricultural and textiles and garments sectors.

Jointly funded by the International Trade Centre, Enhanced Integrated Framework and the OPEC Fund for International Development, SheTrades in the Gambia will be implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE). A countrywide network of institutional and private-sector partners will also be tapped into to ensure that the project reaches and boosts the competitiveness of women entrepreneurs across the Gambia.

GYIN Gambia to Hold 3rd Rural Youth Award in Wuli, URR

The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN) Gambia chapter is to hold its 3rd Edition of the Rural Youth Award (RYA) in Wuli West, Upper River Region on 27^th April, 2019.

The award recognises and celebrates the achievements of rural youths in entrepreneurship and agribusiness. This year’s theme is “Discovering rural value chain by putting young people in agricultural value addition.”

The award provides financial support to deserving agribusiness players to not only grow their business, but serves as an encouragement for them and others to stay in agriculture and contribute to increasing food security, and at the same time enjoy the benefits of running their own businesses.

The 2019 award winners are to receive each a cash prize of D35, 000 plus a six-month mentorship.

NACCUG Trains 35 Mini Grant Shortlisted Applicants on Financial Literacy

The National Association of Cooperative Credit Union of the Gambia (NACCUG), last Saturday, 1st December, 2018, convened a Financial Literacy training programme for 35 shortlisted applicants of Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) mini grant scheme.

 Held at its head office in Bakau, the training was meant to build the participants’ capacities on Savings, Management and Basic Records Keeping for SMEs.

The YEP mini grant scheme application process and funds disbursement is under the purview of NACCUG.

Delivering the opening remarks on the occasion, the mini grant Officer, Saikou Touray dilated on the purpose of the gathering, stating that is a rare opportunity for the participants to be part of the training.

He also tasked them to make good use of training.

Also speaking, the NACCUG Financial and Admin Manager, Mr Patrick Mendy welcome all the participants to the training and advise them to make best use of the opportunity accorded them.

NACCUG disburses over D1.5M mini grant fund to support youths

The Mini Grants Scheme Officer of the Association National of Cooperative Credit Union of the Gambia (NACCUG), Mr Saikou Touray has said his office has disbursed about one million, five hundred and twenty-two thousand, seven hundred and eighty-one dalasi, eighty bututs (D1, 522, 781. 80) to support the beneficiaries in the country. 

The purpose of the mini grant fund is to enhance employability of youths in the Gambia, create more youth friendly enterprises thus curbing the menace of irregular migration while encouraging youth take leadership roles in the credit union movement.

Since the inception of the Scheme, Mr. Touray said, NACCUG has been entrusted with its management by the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) to support young Gambians in creating prospective enterprises as well as up-scaling the micro medium, and small scale existing businesses. As at end of April 30^th 2018, 32 young Gambians out of the 234 applications received nationwide has been awarded grants either to start a new business or improve their existing business.

GYIN Gambia ELIT 2017: Expanding Youth Development through Entrepreneurial Mentorship

Churchill’s Town, The Gambia – The Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia Chapter (GYIN Gambia) will hold its 2^nd Edition of the National Youth Summer Camp from July 23-August 1, 2017.

                             

This year’s Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Information and Technology (ELIT 2017) Summer Camp will allow young people to become rural mentors in their own regions as well as other regions in the country.

The 10-day event will hold under the theme –ELIT 2017: Expanding Youth Development through Entrepreneurial Mentorship. It is aimed at establishing a rural mentorship programme; sharing knowledge and experience on entrepreneurship, agribusiness and youth development issues; seeking business opportunities and networking; and to design a rural youth employment survey plan.

Activities will take the form of conferences, individual and group presentations, quizzes, comedy, culture; field visits to agricultural project sites (rice and poultry farms), markets; and case studies on youth mentorship programmes.
