Gamtel Takes Giant Leap in Telecoms


NEWS BANJUL THE GAMBIA (MB)- The Gambia Telecommunication Company Gamtel been the fist in the telecommunication industry in the Gambian soil has made another giant leap in the industry by providing internet services for its customers. The 3G services goes with three different product ranging from 3G Express USB Stick, 3G Nafaa USB Modem and the 3G Bantaba Wireless Router. In addition, Gamtel is currently having three Jamano products in the market that is Jamano Data, Jamano EV-DO Card and Jamano EV-DO Terminal all of the said products is to enhance the speed and capacity of the 3G network. 
The new products Gamtel, caters for all groups of  customers, and was officially launched at the Gamtel main house in Banjul on the 26th January 2011. 
In his launching statement on behalf of the Gambian Vice President and Minister of Womens Affairs, Mr. Alhagie Cham minister of Infrmation Communication and Information Technology (MOICIT) commended Gamtel for their latest move in launching new product in the Gambian market adding that the services will over come the limitations associated with the prevision products that was launcehed by the company in terms of flexibility, mobility, portability, functionality among other, he attributed.
The minister says " with the 3G services available now, there is going to be a boast in speed and capacity with the already existing subscribers treminals". In other words, Cham added, the 3G will also bring quality service, increase access to the network and address the issue of affordabtlity for its users.
 Telecommunication, he swent on is playing a pivotal role in attaining economic growth and sustainable national development . He noted that Gamtel since it's inception, stakeholders has been benefiting of its quality services that they render to the public for consumption. Therefore, the 3G  service launched, Cham said will eliminate the limited choices and it features will benefit customers in their daily activities.
"With the 3G  products, you can use any form of computer desktops or laptops, and it will work with several application, Cham gives assurance to the public, he continued " the 3G service products will provides  very fast internet speed of up to 3.1 megabits download on the CDMA Technology."
 Minister Cham concluded his statement by expressing government continued support to Gamtel for their endeavour in modernising its infrastructure and services to be among world claa standards in the fast changing and advancing information technology development in the country.
Speaking earlier on behalf of the Minister of the minister of Information Communication and Information Technology, Honorable Yusupha Kah, minister of trade also dilated on the activities that Gamtal has embarked on for the past years. He said in meeting the demand and expectations of customers, Kah added Gamtel has deem it necessary to embark on a project in upgrading the CDMA network from 2G to 3G in the market. This upgrading, he continued, includes a high speed internet access through a gateway backbone, in the same vein, 3G  services has different tariff plus in which, he believe customers will have the choice to subscribe with Gamtal new products.
 According to Him, Kah, Gamtal is also in the process of replacing its network infrastructure with the Next Generation Network (NGN), which he said will allow customers to have bundles of services. Adding that these project when completed will make Gamtel one of the best and leading telecommunication giant inAfrica and will enable Gamtel provide it customers with many more services at affordable price.
For his part, Managing Director of Gamtel Mr. Jamal Micknas described the day as a momentum of joy and reflection and thanked the his management for the hard work in making the day a reality in the annals of Gamtel. He spoke at length about the new products saying that the 3G will provide more secutiry and high rate of services in contributing to the development of the nation's blueprint vision 2020.
