NEWS BANJUL THE GAMBIA(MB)-A training workshop organised for members of the senior management within the Ministry of Agriculture, funded by the Islamic Republic of Iran through the Iranian Office in the Gambia for Agriculture and Rural Development (IGARD) was held at the Paradise Suites Hotel on 19 – 21 January 2010.
The objective was to build the capacities of senior managers. In his workshop opening speech, the deputy Ministry of Agriculture, Momodou S. Kah, stressed the need for capacity strengthening and improvement for personnel under Agriculture.
“The training is, therefore, a right step in the right direction, and is timely”. The overall objective is to strengthen the capacity of the senior management of Agriculture, particularly the newly-established Department of Agriculture, as part of the on-going re-structuring of the sub-sector, Kah said.
The Iranian Ambassador to the Gambia, Saied Zare, spoke of the good relationship between the two presidents and the two countries. He added that any assistance Iran renders to the Gambia is like fulfilling a duty by a Muslim brother to another brother.
Ambassador Zare mentioned the fact that Iran and The Gambia share many common view points on international issues.
‘The Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to share its experience with the Gambia in various fields of the economic and agricultural sectors”, he announced.
“My country would spare no effort to maintain the friendly and constructive ties with all its friends”, the Iranian envoy added.
