``YOUNGO Fundraising`` Great news: YOUNGO receives funding from the Norwegian government !


The Norwegian government granted YOUNGO with 214,417 USD and the administrative arrangements have been prepared by the UNFCCC Secretariat which is acting as contact between the Norwegian government and YOUNGO. The Togolese youth-led  NGOJeunes Volontaires pour l’Environnement (JVE) has been selected as hosting organization of the funds by YOUNGO in accordance with the UNFCCC Secretariat’s rules. Gambia Wins a seat on UNESCO Executive Board



The Gambia became a member of the Executive Board of UNESCO when it won elections on November 2, 2011. Out of the 186 member states entitled to vote, only three ballot papers were declared null and void. 

The Gambia gained fifty-six per cent of the total votes cast for member states coming from the sub-group representing Africa South of the Sahara. Twelve countries in Africa vied for eight seats on the Board. 
The Gambia last won a seat on the Executive Board in 1989. Membership of the Board is four years.

IMF: 'Gambia is classified as being high risk of debt distress'

GAMBIA NEWS ONLINE- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) diligently carried out a ‘Debt Sustainability Analyses (DSA)’ that has cautioned the trend in which the economy and financial system of the country is faring.

The DSA is a formal framework developed by the IMF for conducting public and external debt sustainability analysis as a tool to better detect, prevent, and resolve potential crises. It looks at the evolutions of government debt over the next twenty years and it is based on long-ranged projections of government borrowing needs.

Media Relations training for NGOs combating discrimination

The Media Diversity Institute provided media relations training for 16 Non-Governmental Organisations from across the European Union, on 27 & 28 October 2011, in London. The training was intended to help the NGOs learn how to use the media to assist them in their work of combating discrimination.

Leading Gambian Online Publisher Elected YJAG Secretary General

(The Gambia News Online) An association of young journalists in The Gambia had unanimously elected, Lamin Jahateh, editor and publisher of Gambia News Online, an online blog, as their secretary general.

It was the second biennial congress of the Young Journalists of The Gambia (YJAG) which also marks the 4th year anniversary of the association and held at the Kanifing Municipal Council Multi-purpose Centre along Jimpex Road in Kanifing, on Saturday.  During the congress, members of the association elected new executive members to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years.
